CNN.com – Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is expressing regret after his obscenity-laden rant against President Barack Obama prompted the White House to cancel planned bilateral talks between the two leaders. Duterte, who cursed Obama as a “son of a bitch” Monday, said in a statement through his spokesman that he regretted “it came across as a personal attack on the US President.” “We look forward to ironing out differences arising out of national priorities and perceptions,” the statement released on Tuesday read.
First real post, here we go. (Burgeoning internet blogger trick right here, use an out-of-use, very mundane maybe sorta offensive racial phrase in the title. Is “Indian Giver” offensive? Who knows, haven’t heard it since the 4th grade. But if an Oberlin students gets their hands on this and writes a think piece for Medium about how offensive it is that’s 5k clicks guaranteed. I can edit the post and apologize and take back the headline but they can’t take back those clicks).
Rodrigo Duterte, the Eastern Hemisphere’s foremost advocate for extra-judicial killings and President of the Philllipppinnnes in his spare time, had some choice words for Barack Obama, calling him a son of a wh*re (take that work filters) and threatening to swear at him. For a guy whose main platform was just murdering criminals whenever he pleased, threatening to “swear at him” is a pretty weak threat. Is he just saying he’s going to say bad words at Obama? Doesn’t work. I’m most familiar with this tactic from my middle school career and found out it mainly just lands you in after school detention and then your mom has to pick you up on her own since you missed the bus and then her friend Chad is already drunk when you get home and he ate all the KFC that she got for you and you don’t get anything to eat for dinner. So not effective. Obama pretty much put Duterte in the international version of detention by canceling a meeting between the two Presidents.
In response the guy just took back his insult and said it he regretted that it was seen as a personal attack. Avoid Confrontation 101: no matter how direct or obvious your statement was just say it was misinterpreted. Having to confront someone face to face is the worst thing in the world, Duterte is just going with basic office politics here, call someone out on a CCd e-mail passive aggressively and then avoid that person for 2-3 days to avoid addressing it in person. So yeah the meeting is cancelled and the guy got his dry cleaning done for no reason, but now he can take the night off, hit a Manny Pacquiao concert, and in two days everyone will forget anything even happened.
